Activities
At Attean, there are so many things to do and so little time to do them! There is an activity for every preference whether it be hiking, canoeing, kayaking, boating, sailing - the list goes on and on.
For those who enjoy hiking, we maintain nearly 20 miles of trails that will lead you to remote ponds or mountain tops where the views are unsurpassed and the berry-picking is supreme!
Canoeists and kayakers find the lake and surrounding streams and rivers particularly attractive because of the many uninhabited islands and shore lines which just beg for exploration! Many sand beaches are found on the lake and because of so little public usage you can pick your own to enjoy a picnic, a swim or a lounge in the sun. Bird and wildlife sightings are plentiful and always a fun part of your day on the lake.
For the anglers in the family, Attean Lake is home to native brook trout, landlocked salmon and lake trout. All of the species are replenished annually by the States' Fish and Game Department, insuring a healthy population. June and September are the best months to be fishing, but the serious fisherman can also have luck during the summer months.
For those who want excitement, we offer whitewater rafting trips through one of the local companies, it is an experience one never forgets as the Kennebec River is well known for its' furious whitewater.
Other off-island adventures might include a round of golf in nearby Jackman, a ride to Quebec City 100 miles away or the many fun shops that can be found in Greenville an hours' drive away.
Your typical day will end with a sumptuous dinner and then relax in the lodge or at a bonfire on the beach to roast a marshmellow, a sure hit with both children and adults alike.
Do not forget that the most important activity is to do nothing at all!
